Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health Services, the Coordinator is accountable for the effective and efficient functioning of Mental Health Services and is responsible for planning, implementing, delivering and evaluating complex and varied services to meet program needs.
Working closely with colleagues and co-workers within a population and community health framework, you will coordinate the day-to-day processes and activities, including scheduling and human resource management, and are accountable for developing and monitoring the budget and completing applications for funding and reporting.
In addition to leading an inter-disciplinary team, you'll interact with internal stakeholders such as Directors, Managers, Physicians/Psychiatrists, contractors, peer workers, committee and task groups, and researchers for conducting daily business and achieving program goals and objectives as well as various external groups including government Ministries and agencies, contracted services, clients and their families, consumer groups, health agencies, emergency services, educational personal, and other community/site partners.
Key Accountabilities Include:
- Leading the development and implementation of innovative and creative approaches for delivery of high quality, value added and efficient services, to support long term strategies and effectively address the mental health issues of individuals and increase capacity of the local community to meet local needs and expectations.
- Maintaining awareness of all necessary legislation, regulations, requirements, client needs, industry trends, technology and protocols to ensure current policies, standards, and protocols are relevant, safe, effective, current, and cost effective.
- Collaborating in the development of annual capital and operating budgets to complement strategic directions, managing the site operating budget to adhere to allocated budget by monitoring expenditure, taking corrective action, and producing rationale for deficits.
- Coordinating quality improvement and risk management activities and facilitating the implementation of approved modifications and evaluation of process effectiveness to ensure optimal use of organizational resources and safe delivery of client care.
- Defining an effective workforce plan and making adjustments in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders that ensures the availability of adequate staff within the context of operational demand, and environmental and resource constraints.
- Leading, guiding and supervising staff to support the achievement of required outcomes and ensure adherence to accreditation, regulatory, and safety standards, which will include:
- interviewing and making hiring decisions
- creating an environment that fosters growth, development, knowledge sharing and recognition
- conducting employee performance reviews and coaching sessions
- investigating work and staff issues and initiating disciplinary action up to and including terminations
- Fostering partnerships, establishing networks with other service providers serving the targeted population group and advisory committees, and liaising with other site and community partners to create opportunities for community involvement, ensuring seamless and coordinated client flow throughout the continuum of care, and exploration of partnerships to improve services.
- Overseeing the collection of statistical and performance data, facilitating the interface between research and operations, and recommendingand implementing operational changes based upon the analysis and reporting of this data.
Qualifications and Expertise:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant health care discipline, social sciences, or management field of study supplemented with five (5) to seven (7) year's recent, related clinical experience, including direct supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Eligible for registration/membership with a relevant recognized professional association.
- Excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment.
- Basic computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and/or database programs and ability to utilize a computerized client care information system required.

- Ability to apply knowledge of a wide range of cross-cultural and diversity issues and exhibits comprehensive knowledge of mental health issues within a health care environment.
- Strong ability to collaborate with managers and internal/external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate clinical services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.
- Solid business acumen coupled with the ability to collaborate to develop and monitor area budget, submits proposals and necessary follow-up reporting to secure additional funding from a variety of sources, provides feedback and analysis on variances, and makes recommendations for corrective action.
- Excellent facilitation and collaboration skills with the ability to negotiate effective resolution of human resource issues and foster collaborative working relationships that promote cooperative goal achievement and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
- Strong analytical abilities to review current processes, identify areas for improvement, plan and implement program development, formulate policies and procedures, write reports, and analyze statistical data.
- Superior judgment, political expertise and effective verbal, written and technological communication skills when obtaining information, providing advice/information and otherwise communicating.
- Ability to keep informed about legislation, regulations, industry trends, technology and protocols, and share knowledge and supports staff to integrate evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality care/services.
