Provide Outreach

Are you an RN/RPN looking to grow professionally while delivering innovative, client-centered mental health services? VCH is actively recruiting for RN/RPNs with sharp critical thinking abilities, three to five years’ relevant experience (intake, assessment, and triage,) and a passion for volunteering in the community. Join our new Mental Health & Addictions Access and Assessment Centre (MH&A AAC) team – the first of its kind in the province!

Our facility serves as a single point of access for all Vancouver adults in need of urgent assessments and Home Health and MH&A services. Operating 24 hours per day, the AAC will provide better, more easily accessible care, while eliminating the need for clients to navigate a complicated system or default to the Emergency Department (ED). Our aim is to reduce 70% of unnecessary ED visits, a reduction of 4,000 visits per year.  This is a unique opportunity to contribute to leading edge work and inspire change in the Community.

What is the AAC?access & assessment centre

The Mental Health & Addictions Access and Assessment Centre is VCH’s new facility, which opened its doors recently at Vancouver General Hospital.

The Access and Assessment Centre will provide services like phone and walk-in access, in-depth screening, and self and family referrals and will consolidate a number of mental health services under one roof.

What are people saying?

“With the opening of this centre we’re effectively opening a second door into the health care system where issues stemming from mental health and substance use are a priority.”Dr. Vijay Seethapathy, Medical Manager at Vancouver Coastal Health’s Access and Assessment Centre.

“You’ll be using all your clinical skills in assessing, triaging and treating clients in urgent settings and in their homes. This is a new model of care that does not exist elsewhere in the province.  It’s an opportunity to improve the client’s experience of treatment and support.  You will be able to develop new skills, and grow as a professional.”George S., Manager, Vancouver Mental Health Emergency Services (MHES)
