"As an intern, you can expect most of your time will be spent in direct clinical services."

Our Clinical Psychology Pre-Doctoral Internship program provides broad-based training in clinical psychology with a strong scientist-practitioner orientation. The program has been accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association since 2005 and the American Psychological Association since 1988.

About the internship

Direct clinical services Interns work within three large teaching hospitals (Vancouver General Hospital, UBC Hospital, and St. Paul's Hospital) and in a rehabilitation centre.

All three hospitalsoffer a number of specialty and tertiary care clinics that serve the entire province. As an intern, you can expect most of your time will be spent in direct clinical services, while still having opportunities to benefit from reading, supervision, lectures and in-house research.

Program details The program begins the day after Labor Day and runs for 12 months through to August 31. You accumulate 1,000 "credit hours" whenyou successfully complete each six-month block within the internship year, for a potential total of 2,000 supervised hours. By completion, you are expected to attain a level of competence equivalent to an entry level Ph.D. clinical psychologist.

Supervising psychologists Many psychologists within the hospitals also have appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry or Psychology, University of British Columbia and/or the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University.

Members of the department have active research programs and teaching responsibilities within the hospital, the medical school and the university at large. Hospital psychologists work closely with physicians and other health professionals in psychiatry, neurology, medicine, surgery and geriatric medicine. They also work with research colleagues in both the Faculty of Medicine and Department of Psychology at UBC, as well as the Mental Health Law and Policy Institute at Simon Fraser University.

Benefits You will receive a yearly stipendcompetitive with other programs, basic health care insurance, a UBC library card and access to computer facilities. Some continuing education funds are also providedduring the training year.
