As a Dietitian at Vancouver Coastal Health, you will apply extensive knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutrition goals and care plans for clients. In addition, you will participate in the development of dietetic practice guidelines and procedures for the hospital and provincial agencies and initiate practice-based research projects in collaboration with the dynamic health care team.

New hire support

VCH is pleased to offer new hire support and learning opportunities for dietitians that will help you enhance your confidence and competence as you transition to independent practice. As a new hire at VCH, you will have access to support with clinical skills and decision-making and new grad education sessions.

Our support team for new hires includes access to a Regional Dietitian Educator in addition to the team of Managers, Dietitian Practice Leaders, and, of course, your co-workers.

You will receive both site-specific and regional orientation with supernumerary buddy shifts as needed to support your learning needs.

During your orientation, the Regional Dietitian Educator supports new hires through in-person orientation on core dietetic skills for new grads and new hires across VCH on the following topics:

  • Nutrition Care Practice Resources at VCH
  • Enteral Nutrition
  • Dysphagia Management
  • Nutrition Care Process
  • Home Tube Feeding
  • Home Health Care Referral Process
  • Parenteral Nutrition (online learning module)
  • Subjective Global Assessment

Regional orientation occurs on site either in a group or individual settings. It also includes simulation for the Home Tube Feeding module. In addition, we provide robust Decision Support Tools to help guide your practice and a Dietitians Webpage with access to online tools and resource (eg access to PEN, ASPEN, online journals, etc) to support your learning and practice.

You will have access to a Regional Dietitian Educator to support onboarding, orientation, and continued education. In addition, there are regular continuing education sessions offered for dietitians and an annual dietitian education event.
