Maria

Registered Nurse, Intensive Care Unit
Richmond Hospital

“I’ve been working at VCH for 15 years and it’s like my second home. I just celebrated my anniversary this summer.  I’ve worked very hard, becoming a critical care nurse and getting a lot of experience taking care of our patients.

I love taking care of patients and seeing them get better and recover – I love that. In the ICU, when I see patients recover from being critically ill or injured, when I see that determination, I am inspired. My coworkers also inspire me when we work together as a team and accomplish great things, making the patients better.

There are a lot of great memories, and one that stands out. We had a 24-year-old male patient who had ALS. He became part of our ICU family. We loved him. We all worked together to make his life better. He was amazing. He was amazing until he decided to let go. We will never forget him.”
