Clinical Educator, Home Health
Evergreen Community Health Centre, Vancouver

“I remember, between 2000 and 2004, I had one patient in the Eye Care Centre who needed help for a condition of macular degeneration. She was in bad shape, but she was so strong. I felt like we took really good care of her, and when I saw her condition improving after several extensive treatments, and she was doing better in her life, it was extremely gratifying.

I’ve been a nurse for 20 years, 16 at VCH, and I have seen real growth in how we deliver health care. The biggest change I’ve seen is the stronger collaboration between acute and community providers and how the two areas are working together for a better health outcome for the patient. I love nursing because I really like to help people—clients and staff. And I’m inspired every day on two levels. One by the managers I’ve worked with, because their support and encouragement has always inspired me to be a better leader myself. The other is by the staff who work so hard and provide such unconditional care to our clients and patients.”

Congratulations on 15 years of service Shabin! Although our paths don’t cross too often these days, I’m always struck by your smile and positive energy. Thanks for bringing that to your work every day!
