Lions Gate Hospital campus

We humbly acknowledge that the land on which the Lions Gate Hospital is located is the traditional and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw and Tsleil-Waututh Nation.

LGH is a recognized trauma centre and one of only five neurosurgery centres in British Columbia (BC), with 317 beds, eight operating rooms, and a variety of diagnostic services and equipment.

LGH provides acute, community and primary health care services to more than 270,000 residents from urban and rural settings living on the North Shore as well as in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, Sunshine Coast and the qathet region. It is also affiliated with and provides services to B.C.’s Central Coast including Bella Bella and Bella Coola.

Continued population growth, an aging demographic and LGH’s increasingly regional role all contribute to a high use of clinical services and that demand is expected to increase. We are proactively planning for the future to help ensure those needs are addressed.

Long-term planning process

Health Vision Lions Gate Hospital will consider all clinical services, non-clinical supporting services and regional programs that operate from the LGH campus. This process will provide a unified vision for the development of the campus for the next 30 years, consider the role of LGH as a hub for Coastal communities, and enhance quality of health care in the region.

Once completed, this site-specific plan will help the LGH facility and its suite of services remain aligned with the evolving health-care needs of the local community and broader region. It  will feature best practices for the delivery of health-care services, consider key findings from previous planning exercises, and incorporate the latest data to reflect current and projected health-care priorities.
