Brooke Meunier, Licensed Practical Nurse
Today we are pleased to highlight Brooke Meunier, a licensed practical nurse at Bella Coola General Hospital.
Located on the magnificent Central Coast of B.C. on the beautiful unceded lands of the Nuxalk Nation, the community of Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord.
Tucked between snow-capped coastal mountains, this west coast village is rich in history and aboriginal culture. Bella Coola’s lush green valleys are home to the grizzly, salmon and bald eagle. The climate is mild and the area is a paradise for sport fishing, hiking, heli-skiing and photography. Hanging glaciers provide majestic backdrops where waterfalls plummet down vertical granite walls into the icy waters. Few places on earth provide such magnificent natural beauty!
Brooke relocated to Bella Coola from Vancouver last summer because she was attracted to the unique landscape of mountains and ocean, and the small community lifestyle. “I love to explore and hike,” she says. The valley is home to many waterfalls including Canada’s 3rd tallest – the Hunlen Falls!”
“I enjoy working with members of the Nuxalk Community and learning about traditional medicines,” she says. “One of my most inspirational moments at work is witnessing the community support that shines through, especially with members in palliative care.”
Brooke tells us that Bella Coola General Hospital has a unique team dynamic. “I feel that every member of the interdisciplinary team is valued and consulted with about decisions on patient care.”
She incorporates the VCH values (We Care for Everyone, We Are Always Learning and We Strive for Better Results) by accepting areas that are not within her scope and knowledge and taking the opportunity to learn from members of the team as well as the community.
