Staff Spotlight
Rayna Antoine, Health Care Assistant
Meet Rayna Antoine, a Health Care Assistant working at Shorncliffe, a long-term care facility in Sechelt. She graduated from the Health Care Career Access Program (HCAP) with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
A typical day of a health care assistant includes helping residents for breakfast, getting them prepared for the day and interacting with residents, family members and staff alike.
Finding her purpose in health care
When some of Rayna’s family members fell ill, she witnessed the impact a caregiver makes on the patient. It was then that Rayna knew she wanted to work within health care. “I wanted to help people and be there for them when they needed it the most,” she says. “Having your team member or the families of the residents come up to you and thank you for the job is very rewarding. Building connections really brings me joy and makes me strive to become a better caregiver.”
Rayna is constantly trying to improve her skill set to provide exceptional care. “I do my best to accept feedback from my team members and am actively learning every day. I am a good team player, I am supportive of the residents and I always strive to be better and work as hard as I can.”
In addition to her dedication and hard work, the positive work environment also contributes to her professional growth. Rayna says, “I feel much supported by everyone around me and I know I can go to them if I need help. The VCH team is very helpful.”
Working on the Sunshine Coast
Three years ago, Rayna moved to the Sunshine Coast. “It is such a beautiful place and the trails and the people here are amazing. I love to be outside and enjoy the nice sunny days here.”
Outside of work, Rayna loves photography and riding dirt bikes.
