Rebecca Weiss, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist
Did you know that Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is the lead health authority for Medical Imaging careers across the Lower Mainland? This includes Sonographers, Medical Radiation Technologists, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists.
“I am always excited when I can help a patient get through a difficult exam”
We recently caught up with Rebecca, who works at Abbotsford Regional Hospital as an MRI Technologist. At her worksite, Rebecca and her team provide MRI services to Mission Memorial Hospital and Chilliwack General Hospital. They are also attached to a cancer centre and are involved in research studies!
VCH values in action
As an MRI Technologist, Rebecca is responsible for capturing images on MRI scanners that can help diagnose a patient, working closely with patients to ensure they are prepared and comfortable before and during the procedure. “MRI is always advancing. Learning about new techniques and protocols makes this modal exciting,” she says.
When reflecting on VCH values (We Care for Everyone, We are Always Learning, We Strive for Better Results), Rebecca says these values are incorporated every day when working with patients and helping to ease any anxiety they may be feeling about their scan. “I am always excited when I can help a patient get through a difficult exam. I love to help work together with patients who are claustrophobic and get a successful MRI scan done by talking them through the test”, she says. There are always opportunities to learn new things about MRI from the radiologist or other technologists, Rebecca says, “I feel very much supported in my department. I know I can always rely on my coworkers for help.”
