Darlene MacKinnon
Darlene Mackinnon is Vice President for Coastal Community and leads the delivery of acute, community and long-term care services across a diverse and complex population.
As Vice President for Vancouver Coastal Health's Coastal Community of Care, Darlene leads the delivery of acute, community and long-term care services in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, the Sea to Sky corridor, Sunshine Coast communities, Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola.
A Registered Nurse with 30 years of experience caring for patients, clients and residents across acute, community and corporate services, Darlene brings a diverse background in clinical operations, professional practice, quality improvement and strategic planning. Having started her early years of nursing and professional practice at VCH, she rejoins the team with a focus on creating community and connection across the diverse and complex patient population of the Coastal region and looks forward to working in partnership with the 14 First Nations we serve to provide culturally safe care.
Prior to VCH, Darlene was Chief Operating Officer at Provincial Health Services overseeing B.C. Mental Health and Substance Use Services. She has also served as Vice President and Chief of Zone Operations at Nova Scotia Health Authority, Executive Director at Fraser Health Authority overseeing Royal Columbian Hospital and Fraser Health's Surgical and Cardiac Networks, and as Chief Clinical Planning Officer with Providence Health Care.
Darlene holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dalhousie University, a Master of Health Administration from the University of British Columbia, and a Critical Care Nursing Specialty from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
