Echocardiography is a medical imaging technique that uses ultrasound waves to create detailed images of the heart’s structure and function. It is a non-invasive and safe procedure that allows healthcare providers to assess the heart’s chambers, valves, blood flow and overall pumping efficiency. Echocardiography is commonly referred to as an “echo”.
Your healthcare provider might order an echocardiogram to assess heart valve function, heart muscle health, blood flow, congenital (present at birth) heart defects, and overall heart function.

Get a referral
Have your physician complete the echocardiogram requisition form and fax it to (604) 875-5827.

Confirm appointment
A medical imaging clerk will contact patients to book an appointment. Call 604-875-4800 ext 2 to change or cancel an appointment.

This clinic performs inpatients and specialized echo procedures which include TEE, stress echo, saline and agent contrast.
Hours of operation
- Monday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: Closed
The clinic is closed on Saturday, Sunday and long weekends.
How to get here
The VGH Cardiodiagnostic Centre is located on the ground floor of the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre on Laurel Street.
There is pay parking available at our two visitor lots located on the VGH campus:
- Multi-level parkade at the corner of West 12th Avenue and Laurel Street, across from the main entrance of the Jim Pattison Pavilion.
- The Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre parking lot is located off Laurel Street between West 12th and West 13th Avenue.
There is a wheelchair-accessible overpass from the VGH parkade at Level 4 and a crosswalk at Level 2.
