In another significant step forward for the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project, construction has commenced on the relocated UBC Faculty of Medicine Medical Education Centre. This relocation is a necessary step to prepare for construction of the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, a nine-floor acute care tower. The new tower will have a larger emergency department, more operating rooms, a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, a fully equipped medical imaging department, a pharmacy, and short-stay pediatrics.

The UBC Faculty of Medicine provides innovative educational and research programs across the province through an integrated delivery model, including clinical academic campuses like Richmond Hospital.

"Richmond Hospital has become an important medical training site for UBC Faculty of Medicine.  Faculty and staff are excited about the new UBC Faculty of Medicine Medical Education Centre as it will provide important space and equipment for training physicians of tomorrow. We look forward to its completion as we welcome medical students, residents and fellows to our hospital in the near future,"

Dr. Matthew Kwok, Clinical Associate Professor, Dept. of Emergency Medicine, Site Lead (Richmond), Vancouver Fraser Medical Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia.

This new purpose-built structure will be located adjacent to the Milan Ilich Pavilion, and will become the new hub for medical education, featuring two seminar rooms and a clinical skills training room equipped with an observation area.

As construction continues to progress on this pivotal project, Richmond Hospital will keep the community informed about the exciting developments that will lead to improved health care.
