New location for downtown Vancouver Urgent and Primary Care Centre

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver City Centre Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) is moving to a new and improved space within downtown Vancouver.

On December 3, the Vancouver City Centre UPCC will relocate a short distance away to 188 Nelson St., at the foot of the Cambie Street bridge, which is a 15-minute walk from the current location at 1290 Hornby Street.

This new site offers a larger, recently renovated, purpose-built space for staff and medical staff to provide urgent and primary care. The site is centrally located downtown and accessible by transit, with many other amenities available nearby for patients.

There will be no disruption to service or change of hours as a result of this move. The new City Centre UPCC location will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  The site also includes x-ray services.

UPCCs provide care for people with non-life-threatening conditions who need to see a health-care provider within 12 to 24 hours, but do not require an emergency department. Examples include: minor cuts or burns, headaches and sprains, as well as those experiencing mental-health and substance-use challenges.

To help create a culturally safe space and a welcoming environment, VCH collaborated with Coast Salish artist Jody Broomfield from the Squamish Nation, who created four digital panels called 'Spirit of Four Seasons' that adorns the walls of the UPCC. The panels incorporate the transition between the four seasons honouring the staff who will care for patients all year around.

The City Centre UPCC is one of seven UPCCs in the VCH region, including Richmond City Centre UPCC, Richmond East UPCC, Vancouver Northeast UPCC, Vancouver Southeast UPCC, REACH UPCC and North Vancouver UPCC.
