Nutrition after bariatric surgery

After surgery, you will only be taking sips of clear fluids. This allows your suture site (staple line) to heal and reduce the risk of a post-operative leak. You will slowly increase your clear fluid intake to 2 tbsp every 15 minutes. The following videos outline the usual diet progression for people having bariatric surgery.

Clear fluids: Post-operative days zero to two

Full fluids: Discharge to post-op week three

Pureed foods: Post-op week four to five

Soft solids: Post-op week six to three months

Normal texture: Post-op month three and beyond

Vitamin and mineral supplements
