COVID-19 update for Whistler
B.C.'s Provincial Health Officer rescinds orders for COVID-19
This news release contains information that is more than six months old and may be out of date. On July 26, 2024, B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer issued an order to end the public health emergency for COVID-19 and rescinded all related orders.
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has recorded a reduction in COVID-19 transmission in the Whistler community compared to recent weeks.
- From April 12 to April 18, VCH identified 72 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler. The week prior (April 6 to April11), VCH identified 179 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler.

From Jan. 1 to April 18, there were 1,759 cases* recorded in the Whistler community.

Of these, 1,688 individuals have recovered from COVID-19.
The reported cases continue to be among young adults who live and work in the Whistler community. The most common site for transmission continues to be in household settings and social gatherings. As the BC Centre for Disease Control has recorded through whole genome sequencing, there are variant of concern cases across B.C., including in Whistler.
All Whistler adults who have a primary residence in Whistler or who work in the Whistler community were eligible for vaccination as part of a one week vaccination clinic ran by VCH last week. To ensure all eligible residents have the opportunity to get vaccinated, an additional clinic day will be held on April 28 at Whistler Conference Centre for those who were unable to get vaccinated last week because they were in self-isolation as contacts of COVID-19 cases.
VCH would like to extend its appreciation for the support and partnership of the Resort Municipality of Whistler in running the vaccination clinics, which was critical to their success.
VCH strongly advises residents in Whistler to continue to follow public health guidelines; this includes those who have been vaccinated. VCH also asks any Whistler residents who experience COVID-19-like symptoms to complete the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool and to access testing services in their community, if required. VCH provide care and support to those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Whistler community. This includes rigorous case and contact follow-up for all confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our region.
