As someone who is pregnant or already a parent, you have a number of options to get help from VCH professionals available to you.
For parents
As someone who is pregnant or already a parent, you have a number of options to get help from VCH professionals available to you.
General Public Health
Whether you're pregnant or already a parent and want support, you have a number of options available to you. You can:
- Download and complete a Public Health Prenatal Program Self-Referral form and send it to VCHPrenatalProgram@vch.ca
- Contact your primary care provider – doctor, midwife or nurse practitioner – so they can refer you to a Public Health Nurse.
- Locate the closest Health Centre to you and contact the Public Health nurse there – also known as a self-referral
- Call 1 (855) 550-2229 and ask to speak with a Public Health Nurse
Hearing
If your baby isn't showing signs that they're hearing things, you should get professional audiology help.
Speech
There are a variety of ways to help your young child communicate but, if you need professional help, there are speech and language resources available.
Health Care Providers – Helping your patient
As a health care provider, you have a number of VCH options available to you for arranging assistance from VCH health professionals for your patient(s) including:
North Shore (North & West Vancouver)
- North Shore Child Speech and Language Referral Form For North Shore children aged 0 to 5 years who are experiencing hearing or speech and language difficulties.
- Public Health Prenatal, Postpartum and Early Childhood Referral Form Patients referred through this process will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse (PHN) who may provide direct nursing services or refer on to appropriate community resources. We ask that you have a discussion with the client or parent/guardian prior to making this referral.
Powell River
- Public Health Prenatal, Postpartum and Early Childhood Referral Form Patients referred through this process will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse (PHN) who may provide direct nursing services or refer on to appropriate community resources. We ask that you have a discussion with the client or parent/guardian prior to making this referral.
Richmond
- Childhood Public Health Services Form For children aged six weeks to 5 years who need public health services such as: dental, public health nursing, speech and language, hearing, and/or nutrition. We ask that you have a discussion with the client or parent/guardian prior to making this referral.
- Early Childhood Mental Health Program Referral Form This team of psychiatrists and allied health professionals works with Richmond families to assess and treat behaviour and emotional problems in children 0 to 5 years of age.
- Healthiest Babies Possible and Youth Pregnancy & Parenting Program Referral Form For pregnant women facing challenging life circumstances, Healthiest Babies Possible and the Youth Pregnancy Parenting Program (YPPP) provide nutrition counselling, health education, food access and social support in a variety of different languages.
- Prenatal and Postpartum Public Health Referral Form Patients referred through this process will be contacted by a Public Health Nurse (PHN) who may provide direct nursing services or refer on to appropriate community resources. We ask that you have a discussion with the client or parent/guardian prior to making this referral.
Sea to Sky

- Audiology and Speech & Language Referral Form For Vancouver children 0 – 5 years who are experiencing hearing or speech and language difficulties.
- Dental Program & Clinic Application Form Providing targeted prevention and early intervention of early childhood dental disease in outreach settings and in our dental clinic by appointment for families meeting financial criteria who have completed the financial checklist.
