You’re invited to the Perioperative Nursing Open House
November 27, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for an informative session on November 27th to learn about the dynamic role of a Perioperative Nurse and the Perioperative RN Training Program at Vancouver Coastal Health! Meet and chat with members from our Recruitment, Clinical Education, and OR leadership teams and get the opportunity to tour the Operating Room (OR).
Working in the OR
The OR is an exciting, fast-paced, and technical environment where teams of highly skilled health care professionals work together to investigate pathologies, heal people and save lives. When you join the OR team, you will experience a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect.
As a perioperative nurse, you will function as a patient advocate during times of patient vulnerability. Your excellent communication skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, organizational aptitude and physical and mental fortitude will play a vital role in ensuring quality care and best outcomes. If you love complex and challenging work with lots of variety, you will thrive in the OR. The ability of the inter-professional team to focus solely on caring for one patient at a time is one of the most wonderful aspects of working in the OR and a luxury in the nursing world.
Regional Perioperative Education Program (RPEP)
RPEP is an innovative program that utilizes multiple learning modalities such as online learning, simulation strategy and clinical practicum. The theoretical component is based upon AORN’s Periop 101 online modules. There is a strong emphasis on the clinical portion in various specialties within the operating room training sites. Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.
