“I love the people I work with, everyone is so nice and my manager checks in to provide support,” says Colleen, Program Assistant for the Cambie Older Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Services (MHSU) team.
In this role, Colleen administratively supports the team with transcription, charting, filing, answering phones, greeting clients, and assisting where needed.
The Cambie Older Adult MHSU team is based out of Vancouver and provides specialized community-based services for adults including mental health assessment and consultation, treatment, case management, rehabilitation services, substance use counselling. Care for clients is coordinated with primary care physicians and other community programs.
What’s Colleen’s favourite part of her role? That she gets to help others every day and that no day is ever the same! Colleen has a background in mental health, previously working as a program secretary with the Art Studios program. She was eager to stay working in mental health and felt the position at the Cambie team was a great fit.
Being caring and supportive to both clients and staff is something that is very important to Colleen. “I listen and am patient and empathetic. I am constantly learning at my work and trying to improve upon myself and produce greater results to progress and grow as an employee,” she says.
Throughout the pandemic, Colleen and the Cambie team have continued to diligently provide service to their clients with COVID-19 safety plans in place. “I have been blessed to do so. In these uncertain times it is important to have a reliable job,” says Colleen.
Colleen is also on the staff social committee with the Cambie team where she helps to plan events, organize cards for special life events for team members, and anything else to keep things upbeat and fun. When she’s not at work, you can find Colleen creating beautiful artwork.
