Professor & Head, Department of Orthopaedics
Surgeon-in-Chief, Vancouver Acute
“In my first 12 years of practice I was doing a lot of oncology surgery, but now I do a lot more joint replacement surgery. I’m able to help people who can’t walk because they’re in pain walk again—surgery can turn their lives around. I do what I do so they can get their lives back!
I operate mostly at UBC Hospital now, but there is a culture of excellence at both UBC Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital, where I have done most of my surgery. We do the best we can, all the time, and we are second to none. What’s most rewarding is my ability to work with a bunch of dedicated professionals who really care about what they do. Looking back, working at Vancouver Coastal Health has allowed me to grow as a surgeon, and has given me the opportunity to grow as a medical leader. I have learned a lot, but I still have more to learn. I owe it all to VCH.”
