Psychiatric inpatient services provide assessment and treatment to adults who require acute 24-hour management in a hospital setting.
What to expect
The units are staffed by an interdisciplinary team who work in collaboration with the patient, their family and community supports to provide individualized patient-centered care.
Various inpatient services
There are various inpatient mental health and substance use services. See descriptions of each of the varying services below or find full details at the specific location.
Psychiatric Emergency Assessment & Triage (PEAT)
A space in an Emergency Department (ED) for assessing and triaging ED clients who present with mental health and/or substance use conditions.
Psychiatric Emergency Units
Provides a brief stay for assessment, stabilization and treatment of adults ages 19 and over experiencing a psychiatric/mental health crisis.
Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU)
Short stay unit focused on people who require short term, intensive treatment to return to their community.
Psychiatric Consultation Clinics
Services the needs for the inpatient units on Medical/Surgical wards. The Physicians will request for a consultation from our program to determine whether the admitted patient is currently dealing with a mental health problem.
Psychiatric Inpatient units (PIPUs)
Provides inpatient psychiatric care, including individual work and groups. Focuses on active short-term assessment and treatment.
