Sexual Health Rehabilitation Service

The program recognizes sexual health as a private and sensitive subject, and the team is respectful of individual and family values and beliefs while maintaining confidentiality around shared information. The interventions are based on a nonjudgmental approach and are geared towards the readiness of the person/family and the identified sexual health goals.

Depending on the nature of your concern, Sexual Health Clinicians will manage your care in the following ways:

• Give you information and support related to your specific sexual concerns
• Arrange blood tests if needed
• Connect you with other health care providers/services as appropriate
• Work with you to establish goals and a treatment plan

The Vancouver Sperm Retrieval clinic is part of the Sexual Health Rehabilitation Service at Blusson Spinal Cord Centre and will also:

• Explore the most effective method of sperm retrieval
• Conduct the appropriate fertility assessments, including semen quality
• Discuss the possible approaches for achieving pregnancy
• Provide information about the complexities of conception

For clients, partners, and family members

• individual/couple psycho-education and support
• group workshops
• access to resources
• Sperm Retrieval Clinic (for men experiencing changes to ejaculation)
• Sexual Medicine Physician consultation

For Health Care Professionals

• customized educational workshops and presentations
• consultation regarding client issues
• provision of educational materials to assist staff in addressing the sexual health concerns of their clients
• networking with community resources

Eligibility

The Sexual Health Rehabilitation Service at G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre can see clients who are currently admitted to G.F. Strong for rehabilitation services or outpatients meeting the G.F. Strong outpatient admissions criteria.

The Sexual Health Rehabilitation Service at Blusson Spinal Cord Centre sees clients within the BC/Yukon Territory with neurological impairments or illnesses who are not currently accessing services at G.F. Strong Centre and meet the same admission criteria.

• The Vancouver Sperm Retrieval Clinic is part of the Sexual Health Rehabilitation Service at Blusson Spinal Cord Centre and sees clients with neurological injury or illness who have sexual difficulties (like problems with erection or ejaculation) and who are trying to conceive or want to know if they can in the future.
