VGH named twice in global ranking of best hospitals
The Orthopaedic Trauma Clinic placed 29th on Newsweek's list of the 50 best orthopedic hospitals in the world, ahead of other centres in Canada, Europe and the United States. The clinic is made up of a multidisciplinary team and sees patients from across British Columbia.
“Our clinic strives to provide the best patient care possible with top-trained clinicians, nurses, physiotherapists and staff," says Dr. Pierre Guy, Head, Division of Orthopaedic Trauma. “Receiving this recognition demonstrates that we have achieved success on a global level and that our team will continue to deliver the highest standard of patient care."
VGH has also made Newsweek's list of the top 200 cardiology programs for the outstanding work of the UBC Divisions of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Surgery, which offers a wide range of general and specialized cardiac services including ambulatory and inpatient consultative cardiology and cardiac intensive care.
“This recognition is a further testament to the exceptional, world-class cardiac care our team provides," says Dr. Peter Skarsgard, Head, Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, VGH.
“And to the innovative therapies, procedures and technologies we have developed collaboratively in British Columbia to support our patients," adds Dr. David Wood, Head, Division of Cardiology, VGH.
Back at home, the Georgia Straight names VGH Vancouver's “Best Hospital"
Along with this win, VGH also secured the top spot as best hospital in the city in the Georgia Straight's series “Best of Vancouver," which is published annually.
“It's wonderful to see VGH consistently recognized as a leader by many different organizations," says Michelle de Moor, Interim Vice President, Vancouver Acute Services. “It's truly a testament to our incredible staff and physicians who make this hospital an amazing place to both work and receive care."
“Being ranked as the top hospital in the city and having our clinics recognized on a global level are fantastic achievements that deserve to be celebrated — especially during the global pandemic," says Dr. Marcel Dvorak, Senior Medical Director, Vancouver Acute Services. “Our team continues to go above and beyond to provide the exceptional level of care British Columbians deserve and I couldn't be prouder."
